Anonymise and proofread the coverage
The family can remain anonymous in the media, and you should always ask to read the piece before it is published. Several families together give credibility and better anonymity.
The family and the child can choose to remain anonymous. Our experience with anonymised media coverage is good. If you wish, our volunteers can take part in media coverage and speak on the family’s behalf.
Ask to proofread the text before publication. That is often useful for quality-checking the content and for safeguarding anonymity.
If several parents are experiencing the same problems, you can approach the press together. That gives credibility and reduces the risk of individual children and families being identified. A headline might be, for example; “FAU [the parents’ council working committee] is worried about bullying at school xx”.
